PRP therapy is particularly effective when administered around the eyes, nose and mouth, its also effective at targeting scars. The effect is to plump the skin, fill out lines and wrinkles whilst delivering an overall more radiant appearance.

A small blood sample between 10-20mls is taken from the patient, this is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet plasma. These platelets contain proteins that naturally heal injured tissue and damaged skin. Once we have injected only the platelets, these proteins are released triggering cells to regenerate, repair and create collagen to rejuvenate and increase the volume of the skin.

Typically, it does not take long before PRP patients feel ready to resume their daily lives, preparation, treatment and recovery shouldn’t take more than 2 hours. There will, however, be some swelling and redness in the treated areas, which may take a couple of days to fade.

Results of PRP therapy usually become evident between 2-4 weeks.

The effects of PRP will usually last up to 18 months.

As the treatment is done using the patient’s own blood, there are no major side-effects beyond the possibility of temporary burning sensation, bruising/swelling being experienced at the injection sites.

This treatment is only recommended for people with general good health and is not recommended for those who suffer from platelet dysfunction syndrome or those with acute or chronic infections, sepsis, chronic liver pathology or those undergoing anticoagulant therapy including treatment for high blood pressure.
