Carboxytherapy, also known as carbon dioxide (CO²) therapy, is a safe, non-invasive cosmetic procedure and is a clinically proven method used to rejuvenate, restore, and recondition the skin. It can also help to minimise the appearance of cellulite, discolouration, wrinkles, and scars. As we age, subcutaneous capillaries become dormant with decreasing cells of oxygen; this combined with environmental stresses and other variables, inhibits the ability of cells to regenerate and function properly and the skin slowly loses its elasticity and collagen.

The treatment is based on injecting CO² into the intradermal (superficial in the skin) to infuse gaseous carbon dioxide below the skin into the subcutaneous tissue through a needle or skin. This process is used to create an oxygen deficit to prompt an increase in blood circulation to bring fresh red blood cells to the treated area and to stimulate a wound healing response to rejuvenate the skin. The increase in new blood flushes out old lymph fluid and stagnant blood from the area. This treatment can be used on your scalpfacehands, décolletage, stomach, arms, legs, and buttocks and is usually intended to treat:

Fat deposits

The CO² gas, at high volume is introduced deep into the fat which then breaks up the fat cell and stimulates new vessels and rejuvenation. To treat fat reduction, this procedure is preferred over more invasive methods such as liposuction because of the lower risk for complications. When injected via a specific technique, carbon dioxide gas is directly toxic to fat cells. Once introduced into the fatty deposits, the CO² changes to carbonic acid which dissolves the fat cell and are eliminated by the body.

Cellulite Reduction

Everything from hormones and puberty to unhealthy lifestyle choices can cause dimples and marks on the skin. Carbon dioxide (CO²) is injected into the subcutaneous tissue, and from the injection point, the carbon dioxide diffuses easily into adjacent tissues. Injecting the CO² deep into the cell tissue can assist with the breakup of fat cells which are then removed via the body’s natural elimination process. Carboxytherapy can help treat hard-to-reach pockets of fat as this method tricks the body into producing oxygen, thus safely treating cellulite and fatty areas.

Treating Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are harmless, as they are purely cosmetic flaws that can simply be treated with various non-invasive procedures in our clinic. For stretch marks, injecting this CO² substance into scar tissue can result in the production of collagen, making scarring less visible. Carboxytherapy stimulates certain growth factors that encourage the production of new blood vessels which provides a surge of oxygen and nutrients to the treated area. This process improves circulation and long-term collagen stimulation, and can also be used to treat other scars, such as those caused by acne, surgery, or burns.

Carboxytherapy visibly repairs the broken collagen and is safe for all skin types. It causes the formation of new collagen and subsequently thickens the skin to improve the appearance of the stretchmarks, rebuilding the collagen matrix.

Hair Loss Treatment

Carboxytherapy is a treatment that uses carbon dioxide to stimulate the growth of cells, in this case of hair follicles. It is a non-invasive treatment that uses small injections made up of carbon dioxide gas to stimulate hair growth by improving oxygenation of the hair follicle and its surrounding blood flow. It is injected just below the surface of the scalp, which in turn stimulates a rush of oxygenated red blood cells to the area.

By injecting small amounts of carbon dioxide into the scalp it is possible to deceive the body into thinking that an injury has occurred in or around the area. The body’s response will be to increase blood flow to the scalp and carry more oxygen to the area, which as a result will flood the sculpt with healing cells. This process helps regenerate many of the cells in the scalp, from the skin cells to the hair follicles themselves.

Dark under-eye circles and puffy eyes.

These circles are caused by poor circulation and blood flow, which can create vascular pooling. Carboxytherapy is ideal for those who have significant dark circles under the eyes. Dark circles form much stronger on people with thin skin, as congested the blood vessels causpoor blood circulation in the area. Due to this bad blood supply, the skin shows a dark spot which is caused by blood containing no oxygen.  The theory behind this treatment is that by mildly insufflating the lower eyelids with medical grade carbon dioxide, blood flow to the area is increased and oxygenation improved, leading to improvements in the skin texture and colour.
